Dev Log #1 - Goals System
Game Logo
So this past week has been quite exciting, this is the first I’ve launched the Itch page and also jumped into the Gamemaker Slow Jam. So that was a lot of work trying to get everything ready for that.
We have the Itch page up and running with all the details about the game. But you know, there’s one thing that bothers me so much, and that’s the banner or our current logo that we have. I’m doing my best to find out a better banner that really captures the essence of what this game is all about. I want something with a beautiful nature scenery, but at the same time I want to give out the bustling busyness of the city where usually Zoos are located. It’d be great to have some animals and some other people also in the banner. I think all the Zoo Tycoon games have magnificent posters and gameart, I especially love the box art of 90s and early 2000s.
I mean these pictures don’t do justice for how good they are were when you first got them in your hands. The art itself felt so valuable. So hopefully we should be able to get a nice banner for the game soon.
Money & Popularity
I’ve actually been doing very little development and a lot of game design. I think I’m at that place where I need to make sure my game is really balanced. Currently the game works in the way that the player receives money whenever somebody new comes to the zoo. But the rate at which they come is based on the popularity of the zoo. So as you grow bigger, your popularity rating goes up, hence you get more money per hour. Currently the plan is to balance the game per below table.
Goals System
Now you don't just get popularity for just building anything, but you get popularity based on accomplishing goals. So the latest feature that has been deployed is the goals system. The purpose of the goals system is to also kind of guide the player into all the different features the game has. They shouldn't be just concerned about building one type of thing, but spreading their wings in many different categories. So far I've gotten the ui, also some graphics for awards, and a lot of the back end code completed. The awards were beautiful designed by Pixiepirate from Itch, take a look at all of his beautiful work below!
Let’s keep pushing through!
